Google has unveiled an initiative to certify students & developers as a part of its Android skilling programme in India, aiming to train around 2 million mobile app developers.
The exclusively designed instructor-led training programme on Android Fundamentals will be available over the public and private universities and even in training institutes of National Skill Development Corporation.
“By 2018,India is expected to possess the widest developer population globally overtaking the US may be of 4 million developers, but only around 25% are into mobile app development at present. Caesar Sengupta, vice-president of product management at Google, said “India is unique to innovate and shape the experience of internet especially through mobile platform with the billions of users”.
The in-person training module will be integrated in the course curriculum and that will be introduced by this year at no additional cost.Also it will be available for free on National Programme under Technology Enhanced Learning platform, an initiative from Indian Institutes of Technology & the Indian Institute of Science,part of its online mobile computing course commencing at July 18.
In India, Google has also tied up with Edureka, Manipal Global,Koenig,Udacity, Simplilearn and UpGrad, among others will operate as an authorised Android training partners. It hopes to offer the programme in 2,000 universities, training about 4,000 faculty to reach 250,000 students every year. Google will train their trainers and update the Android material for students to get Android certification and a career in Android development.
The search giant will also be open-source all Android developer fundamentals practicals and course material will be available to everyone for free. Sengupta said “We want to contribute to the Skill India initiative and to make India the global leader in mobile app development” .
